Relocation, New Houses and HomesRelocation, relocation, relocation! We have put together this relocating checklist to ensure your move goes as smoothly as possible. Once you have got a date to move in to your new home, finalise this date and give notice to your landlord if you are living in rented accommodation. Decide whether you want to move yourself or have a removal company give you a helping hand, book the removal company as soon as you know the date as their calendars do get quite full, especially in the spring and summer. When packing consider things that you will need right up until the move that you needn't pack - i.e. kettle, cups to keep you in hot drinks whilst moving your boxes around. You might want to consider labelling or colour coding boxes to ensure you know how to find important things easily when unpacking. Redirect mail, you need to do this at least 7 days before the move to ensure that your redirection is set up ready. You might want to inform some contacts as well as redirecting your mail - such as: Your employer; Your children's school or college; Family Doctor and dentist and any hospital departments where you have ongoing contact; Banks, Building Societies and Credit card companies; Council Tax department ; Telephone and mobile phone companies, Utilities, electricity, gas and water; TV Licencing Authority; Insurance companies for house and cars; Membership organisations; Magazine and Newspaper subscriptions; Local health or sports club. Ensure that all outstanding bills have been paid and don't forget to get your drivers licence updated too.
